TJ O'Connor Shelter Continues to Need Homes/Supplies

Dawn holding staff favorite Sheila looking for loving homeT.J. O'Connor Shelter on Cottage Street in Springfield has many companion animals in need of homes. One of the "staff favorites", "Sheila", a 1 and 1/2 yr old black and white female, was rolled out into the main lobby, cage and all by Dawn, an employee hoping to get her better exposure. "Sheila" is a very pretty and playful cat that would make a great addition to a loving home.

Several of the dogs profiled by DAN last month were adopted including 3 from the Middletown, CT Animal Control officer Gail Petras. Clairol - a favorite of T.J. O'Connor was on her way to meet a potential adopter from New York State. We hope for the best for Clairol.

Shelter Director Barbara Hays told Dr. Dean she is now doing a weekly 30 second local TV spot on "Springfield CBS3" to promote adoptions at her facility. For specific details of dogs and cats available for adoption you can access the shelter's listings at www.petharbor.com.

Looking for a "Love for Life"

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, we at DAN are reminded of an ad we placed almost 10 yrs ago for Valentine's Day in the Springfield Newspaper. It simply stated: "If you want a love for life - adopt a dog". This advertisement featured a shelter volunteer, Beverly Kagan who groomed, walked and adopted many of the shelter's abandoned dogs.

Today Bev and her husband Fritz have lived by that example by rescuing and adopting 5 dogs since that time. Their last rescue was "Ranger" who was an older dog had few options causing Bev to rescue him herself. "Ranger" says that "It doesn't get better than this!"

In the same Valentines Day spirit, we give a big thank you to Bev and Fritz, who in our opinion have two of the biggest hearts in the world.
