Dakin Dogs at PawsFestPawsFest at the Dakin Animal Shelter did go on through rain and shine on Sunday, June 6th. Dogs participated in a range of activities including rookie and experienced agility runs, AKC Canine Good Citizen testing with trainer Herb Everett and a hot dog eating contest. For two-legged guests there were demonstrations in Pet First Aid, Clicker Training, Pet Chance raffles, a Pet Bazaar and Pet Portraits by illustrator Kristin from Family Fun Magazine.

According
to part-time staffers Justen and Katie, Dakin has 6 paid staff and
about 35 volunteers. Volunteers were enthusiastically praised because "Dakin
could not function without them". Dakin has 10 dog runs, about
20 cat cages and is a "no-kill" facility. Their mission is
to "work with the community to strengthen the bond between animals
and people, enhancing the quality of their lives through compassionate
sheltering, responsible adoptions, education and outreach.
