DAN Shelter Fund Growing SlowlyThe DAN Shelter Fund, with the exception of a few large contributions, is going slowly. After launching the Fund a little more than a month ago, the DAN mailbox is very empty. And that's the bad news. The good news is that an extraordinary individual, Mike Wallace, has offered to buy a new veterinary scale for the Center. This $1200 piece of equipment is important for keeping track of animals' weights and will be used to calibrate medication.
The $4,000 acquired so far in The DAN Shelter Fund will not go very far in equipping the new center's veterinarian, vet. tech., grooming, and educational room. If you haven't given, please click on the DAN Shelter Fund brochure (to the right) or call us at 413-783-2642. The cities have done their part in building a humane modern shelter. By contributing medical and educational equipment, the DAN Shelter Fund will demonstrate our equal commitment to the homeless animals in the Pioneer Valley. New Shelter Gets Crowned by a New Roof Air ConditionerAn air -conditioner is considered by most of us an important part of keeping our environment cool. The multi-ton air-conditioning unit placed on the new Center's roof represents much more than this. Ask any of the employees at the old T.J. O'Connor Animal Control Center (which has no AC) when the inside temperature reached over 100 degrees last year. At that time, DAN donated several industrial fans, which had only a little relief for the animals and personnel.
The grand opening is still scheduled for late October or early November. Many thanks to the construction crew, Fontaine Construction and EDM Architects.
