Volunteers Considered "Vital" at Pembroke Animal Shelter
One
cannot help from being impressed approaching the latest shelter built
by the Animal Rescue League of Boston. This 20,000 sq.ft. building set
on the edge of a 69 acre wild life habitat will house more than 7000
dogs, cats and small animals a year.
While
staffed by 12 paid professionals including a vet and 2 vet technicians,
Shelter Manager Carmine DiCenso stated in a recent interview that the
50 volunteers working at the shelter were vital to the facilities operations.
"We could not run the shelter without them. They work in administration,
exercise, training, public education and fund raising.
Manager DiCenso says that the shelter has been well
received by the residents in the few months that it has been open with
over a hundred adoptions in the past several weeks.
