New Shelter Grand Opening Brings Out Many Well Wishers
On
December 4th, 2003, over 150 shelter supporters including Mayors, Legislators,
Builders, Rescue Groups and Animal Welfare Organizations jammed the
lobby of the new shelter to dedicate the facility. Thomas Haberlin,
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors introduced Paul Picknelly, President
of Monarch Enterprises and owner of the facility. Ronald Griffin, President
of EDM Architectural Firm stated it was a great day for animals and
remarked that his firm had never built an animal shelter before and
relied heavily on the expertise of Martha Seng. Martha, a Texas based
architect for the firm of Jackson and Ryan, in contrast, has designed
hundreds of animal shelters.

James
Tillotson, Chicopee Alderman at Large, and member of the Board of Supervisors
commented that the new facility would not have been built without the
citizens of the area testifying at public hearings for the new shelter.
The
Dog Adoption Network, in addition to supplying a dedication cake, contributed
new tables, chairs, and a professional veterinarian scale for the opening.
In the future the Dan Shelter Fund will be purchasing additional grooming
equipment for the Center.
