Putting Their Best Paw Forward
'Tis The Season when F.A.C.E.S. Dog Rescue and Adoption
and A.W. Brown's once again provide a place for companion animals to
meet Santa Claus.

Professional photographer Rich Novak, who has taken
photos of many celebrities such as Kim Bassinger, Paul Newman, Alec
Balwin still loves taking photos of cats and dogs and other animals
dressed up in their Christmas best.
Santa Claus, (Jim Fleury), and other volunteers kept
things moving. A good time was had by all.

Former Shelter Employees Just Can't Keep
Their Paws Off Other Dogs
You
would think that after administrating the TJO Animal Shelter and Adoption
Center and providing care for hundreds of dogs and cats that would
be enough. But just a few months after leaving their shelter jobs both
Michelle Downie and Chris Higgins have started up a new animal care
enterprise called Wags to Whiskers Pet Sitting serving 16 Acres, Wibraham,
Hampden, Ludlow, Chicopee, East Longmeadow and Longmeadow.
Michelle Downie started her animal care career volunteering
at the MSPCA while attending college for her masters in Law Enforcement.
In 1999 she was hired as Assistant Kennel Manager for TJO'Connor Animal
Control and then became Assistant Director shortly after. She was Operations
Director of the new TJ O'Connor facility on Cottage Street before starting
her own business.
Michelle has several dogs and 3 cats who live with
her, some rescued from TJO The idea for her new business arose from
her own concerns and fears of how to provide safe and stressfree care
for her own animals while away or on vacation. She believes the most
important thing is to provide pet sitting services in a pet's own home
to make it less stressful.
Her
partner, Chris Higgins is a certified groomer and has worked at the
East Longmeadow Animal Hospital for 7 1/2 years. She was also Assistant
Operations Manager of the T.J. O'Connor Animal Control Center. Chris
lives with her 2 greyhounds, and a great dane.
Having always done pet sitting for friends and family,
she decided to team up with Michelle. She stated that providing a safe
and friendly environment in the pet's own home was also her main concern.
Both believe that in-home pet sitting is the best way to do it for
the sake of the animal's comfort.
We wish them success in their new business.

DAN and Petco Celebrate "Adopt
a Shelter Dog Month"
This past October DAN displayed an exhibit at the Enfield
Petco store. Pictures of dogs in area shelters and foster homes available
for adoption were featured. During that weekend Petco also sponsored
an instore immunization program and offered a new nail clipping service
available next to their grooming room.
