Dakota
The day we got Dakota was one of the happiest days of my life. That day was August 19, 1998. The reason we even got him was because of a woman from my father's office. Her name is Linda. Besides working at the office, she devotes part of her time to finding homes for dogs. My father and mother had told her that we wanted to get a puppy. So the next day Linda started searching, and one day she hit the jackpot. She found us the cutest, most playful, and most lovable dog in the world - Dakota.
He was a little scared and excited at the same time when he saw my parents, my sister and me. Who could blame him? He didn't know that the people petting him were going to be his pack. He was only nine pounds, and about 3 months old. But he was also a playful little thing with energy that wouldn't quit.
Over the next couple of weeks he came to know where he fit in the pack. I am sure my family will agree that we definitely spoiled our little puppy so much that he started to feel like a prince. I think he had more toys than my sister and I had. There is one thing that Dakota has never caught and played with, but he has come close - Squirrels.
My little puppy can also be a hassle. One day while my sister and I were at school and my parents were at work, Dakota missed us so much he took out his sadness and anger on the living room chair. When we all came home we were in disbelief that our small little puppy could tear up a chair that was heavier than him! After being scolded (not physically hurting him), he wagged his tail happily once again and curled back his ears to apologize fully. This wasn't the only time that this happened...it happened again the next day too, and again...
Even though some stories about my puppy have been... well... mindwrecking, there are some wonderful tales that are so cute. Here's one - I think a dog chooses a favorite person of the pack. Dakota's choice was obvious after the first couple of days. His favorite was my mom, the person who wanted a puppy least. He managed to make his way into her heart, though. Now every time she comes home from work instead of just wagging his tail, he shakes his whole back end and wags his tail in a circle. That is why my dog is a wonderful and enjoyable thing to have in my life. Dakota keeps us company and always makes us laugh and smile. I also believe that a dog is a woman's and a girl's best friend too.
