Rex
We adopted Rex against what I thought was my "Better
Judgment." One of our dogs had died and there was such a tremendous
empty place in the house that we wanted to try and fill it. Knowing
that nothing would ever take the place of our lost dog Grimly I, in
protest, agreed to help find another pet. We found Rex (formally Chris).
He wasn't exactly what we were looking for. He growled at everything
and everyone.
Rex had been picked up on the streets of Copake, NY.
He lived out of garbage cans and annoyed the towns people. They in turn
threw rocks at this dog. We took Rex home for a test run. He was a difficult
animal at best. If you walked past him he growled. If you talked to
him he growled. If you tried to pet him he would get up from the spot
he was laying, growl and walk away. "What a wonderful family pet" I
thought.
At the prompting from the rest of the family I agreed
to keep Chris....the first thing we did was change his name. Chris became
Rex. Slowly but steadily his personality began to change. This was a
slow process but it was well worth the effort on his part as well as
ours.
He is a most wonderful creature. Even at the thought
of him my heart fills with love and Joy. We have always had dogs but
this dog has such personality he is almost human and with some of the
looks you get from him you almost hope he isn't thinking what you think
he may be thinking!! He loves to play and cries (or sings as I call
it) if you stop petting him.....or you get "the Look". He can catch
anything u throw his way.......we're sure it is due to his having rock
thrown at him that has made him such a great catcher. This dog is a
part of our family and we are happy to have him as such.
The only time Rex growls at us now is if one of us
happens to be sitting in HIS spot on the couch.....which happens to
be The Whole Couch. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about Rex. He
thinks it was high time he got some notoriety
