TJO April Update
MARCH 29, 2001.
The Board of Supervisors that operates T.J. O'Connor met at Springfield
City Hall this past Thursday to discuss the current status of the shelter.
The following is a summary of the facts regarding this meeting.
- Architect Stephen Jensen has been hired for site evaluation and
analysis only. Mr. Jensen was the architect for the new $11.2 MSPCA
located on Union St., Springfield. At this point, Mr. Jensen will
be evaluating sites with Maureen Hayes. He has not been officially
hired as the architect for the shelter itself.
- The possible sites to be evaluated have been narrowed down to 3
or 4 at this time. Others may be considered if they become available.
- A tax-exempt charitable organization is being formed.
- Chairman Haberlin stated that it was his opinion that the Center
will not be given an eviction notice in November.
- The city of Springfield hosted a meeting of political aids to discuss
a legislative remedy to the funding problem faced by the pound's relocation.
Several staff members expressed their support and will try to develop
a legislative initiative to address the problem.
